By AntX2
The Antyssey: Chapter 4
A Broken Realm (Part 1)

AntX2 continued east towards the Museum from Stinkifishy, when suddenly the sound of heavy chain boots was heard approaching him from behind. "Sir Antex! To the museum, is it?", called out Sir Fritik. A cocky smirk of confidence appeared on AntX2's face as his guards approached, unharmed. "There's not a scratch on any of you", he shook his head. "Would've been faster if the lads hadn't insisted on running away. Should've just let us go.", Sir Fritik said shaking his head as well. "Oh well, such is the ways of war." AntX2 raised an eyebrow to his knight. "We're not in a war, not yet." The group continued on to the museum, which wasn't far from Stinkifishy. As they arrived, Antex went for the door when he heard a familiar voice coming towards him. "Anty!", exclaimed GraBug. Antex chuckled and the two embraced. "Been a long time, eh Bug?" GraBug chuckled. "It has. Some were saying you had been exploring frozen land masses?" Antex looked disappointed. "Frozen land masses, huh? Yeah, sure, that's what we'll call it. Anyway, I trust the invitation for this evening made it to Valgamarx?" GraBug looked as though he remembered something. He began searching through his pockets quickly and after a minute, pulled something out. "Here it is!", he exclaimed. "You carry it around with you?", Antex looked puzzled. "It says here, King GraBug of Valgamarx and any number of his forces are humbly invited to Braddock for blah blah blah, not important. I am NOT King GraBug of Valgamarx, Anty! I am Her Queen's Remembrancer GraBug of Valgamarx! Fix this!" Antex sighed. "Of course you are, I'll have it fixed immediately ... remembrancer. Anyway, Gra, there is much for us to discuss, but not here. There were many things I couldn't trust messengers with. We shall travel to Braddock to discuss all important matters, however, since we are here at the Museum, I must ask you something first." Gra still seemed distracted by the error on his invitation. "Gra!", shouted Antex. "What? Oh right, hehe, important matters. Anyway, what's this you wanted to ask me?"

Antex looked towards the museum doors and glanced upward at the large building. "Do you remember my old sword, Icewind?", he inquired. "You mean that giant broadsword you used to carry around on your back? Always gave you backaches? Claimed you had it spellforged but was probably lying?", Gra asked in a sarcastic manner. Antex rolled his eyes. "Yes, that's the one. Would you know if the museum has it?" Gra looked insulted. "Of course I'd know!, - but it's funny that you ask about it. 'Just so happens a fellow brought it to me just a few weeks ago. Said he bought it off some traveling merchant or something. Why do you ask?" Antex looked both relieved and reluctant. "I need it back, Gra. Icewind was spellforged from the ancestral blade of Jon Braddock's lineage, Ironwind. It was never meant to leave my side." Gra shook his head, looking reluctant. "Well I'm sorry Anty, what belongs to the museum is the museum's. I can't just give it back to you", he said. "You're the Curator of the museum, Gra! Of course you can give it back! It was taken from me and I never meant for it to end up here. It's mine!" Gra sighed. "Tell you what, I'll give it back to ya on two conditions. One, you pay the gold it's worth here at the museum, with a little extra for my troubles, of course." He chuckled. Antex didn't look as amused. "And the second?", he demanded. "You address me as Her Queen's Remembrancer on all documents, invitations, newsboard posts, anything and everything. Deal?"

Antex sighed. "Fine, whatever, just give me my sword." The two stepped into the museum and handled business. After a few moments, more guards from Soupir appeared outside. There was at least twice as many as before. Sir Fritik stepped inside the museum. "Sir Antex, there are a few dozen of them, easy. We can take them, but things could get bloody. I can't guarantee you a safe exit from here." Antex thought for a moment before speaking. "That's fine, you won't have to. Inform the guards that I've already left the museum and have arrived at Castle Soupir. They won't have time to arrest you all if they think a fugitive is in the capitol." Sir Fritik looked confused. "And when they ask to search inside here?", he asked in a puzzled tone. "Don't worry about it", Antex reached for a device in his cloak. Sir Fritik smiled as GraBug returned with Icewind. "Here's your beloved sword. Thank you for the ever so generous donation to the museum today, sir." Antex smiled as he inspected the blade. "Thank you Gra, but-", he was cut off. "That's Her Queen's Remembrancer Gra to you!" The sound of blades being unsheathed came from outside. "We have no time Gra, meet me at Castle Antex this evening with your forces. Sir Fritik, good luck." Sir Fritik nodded and headed for the door. Her Queen's Remembrancer looked confused.

As Sir Fritik stepped outside, the guards were about to battle it out. "Wait!", he exclaimed. "I've just been informed that Sir AntX2 has already made his way to Castle Soupir." One of the Soupir guards looked doubtful. "Oh, is that so? So why is it that you lot are waiting here?", he demanded. "If you had any ounce of a strategic mind in that thick skull of yours you'd be able to figure it out", Sir Fritik replied arrogantly. It didn't take much to set him off, and Sir Fritik had a hard time keeping his mouth shut. The guard gritted his teeth. "You think I won't drive my blade through you just because they call you the Fury? I'd be honored to bring your head to the Lady. I know you're all a bunch of treasonous cowards." The two men had a stare-down while the other guards searched the museum. After a moment, they returned looking distraught. "No one is here, he must be at the Castle after all. We have to move." The guard facing Sir Fritik looked at the other, then back at him. "All of you head back to the Castle save for 10. I don't care which 10 of ya, just hurry and move." The other guards left in a hurry while the remaining tied up Sir Fritik and his men. They were all taken to Castle Soupir.

By AntX2
The Antyssey: Chapter 4
A Broken Realm (Part 2)

Later that evening, the leaders and main forces of Valgamarx, Stelthania, and Windberry all met up on Braddock for a grand feast. When the eating was over, Antex gathered everyone's attention and began his proposal. "It's no secret why you all are here. I've been sending letters, proposals, and invitations for a short while now, and I think the majority of you know at least a little of what this is about." Antex looked around the large hall of people all listening to him. All of them were focused on what he had to say. GraBug, Brucey, and Smurfsrule all stood behind him. "For a while now, Windberry has been a prime subject for Gaoric invasions. With that said, we've requested help from Soupir many a times to no avail. These attacks go on for hours and we've lost many good men of the Braddock/Windberry Alliance trying to fend them off. It's like the Lady just ignores us. They claim their forces are still weakened from the mass invasion last summer but it's no excuse. We're all hurting, not just the capitol. I've even been to Castle Soupir numerous times since then, seeking the Lady's attention myself. She is nowhere to be found, and there are even rumors that she's not at Castle Soupir. In fact, sometimes it's like no one is at Castle Soupir. It's not the bustling hub city that it once was. It's weakened, wounded, broken. The whole realm is broken, and while we may think we won the recent mass invasion of the Gaoric, it's effects still linger. Sure, we fought them off, but we're still the ones suffering. The Land of Gaor is continuing to prosper and it won't be long before they attack us in such a manner again. We were unprepared, and we suffered many casualties from it. I'm sick of living in fear that this could happen again. That perhaps the next time Windberry is attacked, we won't be able to retaliate. This is why I've brought you all here today." AntX2 paused before continuing his speech.

"On this day, the islands of Braddock, Windberry, Stelthania, and Valgamarx declare independence from the realm. From this day until our last, we will be known as independent nations subject to our own laws. We do not answer to the crown, and we do not depend on it either. We are free nations, greater nations. We will live in fear no more. We take what is ours, and leave our enemies in blood and ash. I swear to you, we may be 4 nations now but we will grow when the world sees that our cause is truth. No longer will we be thrown into the drama that goes on in the capitol. No more pandemonium with the crown, no more rulers declared on the spot, no more Soupir. We will create our own allegiance, and our power will come together in stride when it is necessary. Otherwise we continue our days peacefully. The realm is broken, but I'm not looking to fix it. I'm looking to break my piece off. Before you we stood as merely Lords of our islands, nothing more than managers if you will. Now, we stand as Kings, and-" He was interrupted by GraBug. "Ahem, Ant!" Antex rolled his eyes again. "Right, before you stands King AntX2 of Braddock, King Brucey of Stelthania, King Smurfsrule of Windberry, and ... Her Queen's Remembrancer GraBug of Valgamarx. Together we are The Greater Nations of Nowhere."

When his speech was through, the hall erupted in cheers and everyone leaped to their feet to applause the independent leaders. Antex turned to the others. "They'll call us rebels, you know?", said Smurfsrule. "Let them call us what they want, but I call us free.", replied Antex. Just then, one of Braddock's guards approached him. "What about the prisoner, your grace?", he inquired. "Oh right, I almost forgot, bring him out." A couple of guards brought out AntX4 who was in chains. A look of great worriment was plastered on his face. AntX2 looked at him with disgust. "This man is a pure example of the corruption and broken allegiance that is the realm of Soupir. He is Antex the Fourth of the former noble house known as The Colony of Red Hill. I say former because my forces stormed Red Hill and destroyed The Colony this morning. Yes, they were my own noble house, but it was an act of war that was needed. This man came to me as acting leader of our house, and threatened that if I didn't kill Lady Suzumi and have The Colony storm Castle Soupir, I'd be deemed an enemy of The Colony and killed. A threat I'm sure he regrets at this moment." AntX4's face grew red with anger. "You... so you rebel against the realm? You slaughter our house, and now you start a revolution against the realm you seemed so eager to protect?! You're no X, I don't even know what you are!" AntX2 put his foot into X4's back, forcing him to lay in the beheading position. "I'm a King, and I am protecting the realm, from itself."

The people roared in cheers. "Kill the traitor!", "Off with his head!", "Make him pay!", were all heard throughout the hall. AntX2 looked out at the people, and then towards his guards. "Bring me Icewind", he demanded. "I, King AntX2 of Braddock sentence you, Antex the Fourth, to death." The people roared once again. Icewind was brought to X2 and he unsheathed it to much applause. "Any last words, X4?" AntX4 looked up at X2 with an eager, painful, stare. "The Colony may be gone, but The Elder lives on. You will regret this day, X2. I swear it, you will regret this day." He turned his head downward, facing the ground. "I only regret not doing this sooner." AntX2 raised Icewind high in the air, and brought it down with a swift yet mighty blow. The people roared once more as X4's head rolled across the floor. AntX2 looked out at them but with disappointment. "No, no, no! You shouldn't be cheering that someone had to die. No one should have to die in this. You never give your life gladly, and you should never take a man's life gladly. I only do what must be done." That left dead silence throughout the hall. Antex turned to the other Kings and gave his first order to The Greater Nations. "Sir Fritik of Braddock and his men are being held prisoner in Castle Soupir. We will wager them back. No bloodshed is needed." The others nodded, and the rebellion began.

By Davyyn
Fire Fire!

Calling all NEaBians! Yes, that's it, because you're barefoot. Bring your buckets, brings the water hoses, bring anything that will carry water! We have a shortage and we desperately need all we can get! There are activities for families too! Nothing like a little father/son bonding over a raging wildfire! So come on down and volunteer today!

By lecount
This Must End
This article has been edited by Rebel Loyalist GraBug

Last night, the Government Building on Ratre Island was burned to the ground. Officials still have yet to release the full report on the investigation, but it currently looks to be a case of arson. We have reason to believe that the fire was started by members of the Greater Nations. A charred mushroom, the weapon of choice of known rebel leader Smurfsrule, was found among the wreckage, doused in gasoline.

As such, I must beg the Greater Nations. Stop this madness. I have heard rumors of a peace meeting with Lady Suzumi. Please, acquiesce to her demands. This separatist madness and anarchy must end, for the good of the entire realm. I beg of you, please listen to Lady Suzumi, she has ushered the realm into an era of unprecedented peace.

Sincerely,
Sir LeCount, slightly roasted governor of Ratre Island

adverts

By Davyyn
Ticket Please!

Hello fellow NEaBians! 'Tis a fine day, plenty of rebels and smurfs on the loose. Any to the subject, I am holding a new contest called, "Guess Whats in my Pocket". This week's edition is, "Guess how many (Goadlo) "Return Tickets" I have in my pocket!"

Rules: One guess per person. The person with the closest guess by next Wednesday wins. No levels excluded, and the prize will be randomly selected by myself.Contact Advertiser

By riemu
Rant starts with R?

As always, popularity was huge with one participant, but since Davyyn is so familiar with holy matrimony, we were expected a bit more specific answer than “You're In NEaB!”. Last weeks nun was at the Wedding Chapel in Shara Ren. Therefore, Davyyn will receive a once in a pie chance at a shiny with a Glumy egg.

Next off to more pressing matters, revolution rant! Things you should know? Revolution is a good or a bad thing, depending on your relation to the previous ruler. When a kingdom changes from a system to another, revolution may be a part of it. It most likely originates from Gaorics since they are faster to surrender than some random rebels unfamiliar with the art of waving a white flag. Revolution never fails, it’s only delayed for a while or eon… Victory is inevitable? After everything, rightful beheadings take place and a new even worse tyranny is born. So, you can’t beat the system. You can only be part of it or make more shiny bones?

For last but not least, something about the face behind this facade. Everyone knows that ants live in anthills and are madly in love with cheese. But what do they really think:
00:00 sleep, sleep, sleep!
07:00 work, work, work!
08:00 cheese, cheese, cheese!
09:00 hill, hill, hill!
15:00 work, work, work!
18:00 die, di… (ant got stomped)

In conclusion, next time you see these little buggers, stomp like there’s no tomorrow (beheading works too)!

By maskguy22
Part One of Four.
"OutDated Masks"

The sky was dark, barely lit by the swirling, full moon. A few miles or so from The Castle, a hero, wearing black and red robes, the cuffs lined with gold, raced on a black stallion. He pulled his horse to a stop, jumping off. He quickly removed his hood, a Phantom half mask on his face. He comes closer to the wall of the castle, feeling it's bricks. He pushed on one, a dark, reddish brick, standing out, and then backed away. The ground lowered slightly, dirt clearing to reveal an, primitive, elevator. He stepped in, tossing his robes near the horse at the last second, before the elevator lowered. He was dressed in black armor, his brown hair uncombed and messy. He tied his boots tight, checking his equipment. The elevator came to a halt, revealing a large room, filled with steam generators, and working men. He managed to stay in the shadows, exiting to a larger room. What he saw was amazing... It was an underground city, filled with genius contraptions of gears, steam... He looked at a billboard near him, reading what it said.
And what it said, amazed him even further. It was one word. Barely a word, barely even a known place... Only known by the evil Dwarves of Volanarock, the hidden species.
It read Ripuos.

By Davyyn
Secrets

You have a secret.
A Secret that is a burden.
A burden that threatens to crush you.
You cannot share this secret.
For if you do,
You hurt someone close to you.
But if you don't,
The people who need to know the secret,
They might get hurt also.
But if you keep this secret,
It could tear everything you hold dear apart.
What are you to do?

adverts

By riemu
Week end?

Judging from your answers, players have better things to do than think and spare time often is like work. We would have accepted that kids spend their spare time neglecting play and while lost in your thoughts you wander desire street, low road and theft alley, where you end up in a dead end and you're accused of thoughtlessness.
And with 2 participants, we dug 2 letters deep and found consolation prizes:
Oxeknarf, who got surprisingly close gets 2 million gold, Divine help card & Zorizh’s dizzy drink.
Davyyn gets to make do with 1 million gold, tomato & restoration bomb potion.
Since vagueness seems so uninteresting, next time should be something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?

Ok im officially calling it quits ive spent 2 days trying to figure this out. In the demo of miniNEAB v5. There is a minimap and a module that has tiles for buildings barrels and stuff like that. Ive installed it 3 times and i still can not get the minimap to work or the tiles to show up. I have the smart draw tiles but thats like 10 tiles. I would like to be able to build my game. Please if someon could assist me i would appreciate it. Lol so frustrated. Thought i was doing something wrong but between me and my programmmer im positive its either a mistake showing it in the demo version or there is a issue with my packaged version of miniNEAB. Please let me know. You can login and look for yourself. www.parallelblade.com
